Michael C @Michael71 1d It has often been said among movie fans and critics that it seems a certain part was written for only one actor and nobody else could even come close to playing the role as well as the actor chosen for it. I think that can be said here. The late Darren McGavin was perfect as journalist Carl Kolchak. Nobody else could have played the role of the veteran unorthodox journalist better than him. His performance is phenomenal. So much that I think he deserved to win an Emmy. The main story of this terrific made for television movie is actually quite good. He is also helped by a top notch supporting cast. The late Barry Atwater does a decent job as Kolchak's adversary Janos Skorzeny. The impressive performances help add to the enjoyment of one of the seventies' greatest made for television movies. Just great fun from start to finish. My only regret is not seeing the movie sooner. Don't make the mistake I did. See "The Night Stalker" as soon as you get the chance. See more Garry A @heavyg Apr 19 A serial killer is identified as a vampire who runs around killing young women. An annoying reporter covers the story. The action scenes between the vampire and police are the most interesting parts of the movie. I purchased this movie and the entire series laster as an adult on DVD... which i cant find anymore. Located this movie to stream is hard... if you do find it, watch it.. the story, the acting, the jumps, and Darren McGavin's Kolchak are something not to be missed. What separates this vampire film from the rest of them is McGavin as the reporter Kolchak and Barry Atwater as the scary vampire Janos Skorzeny. He's scary because he's animalistic with his pale, undead countenance and vampiric growl. But Kolchak's gravitas mixed with humor makes it all work. Love it.
