I guess it all just boils down to simply this: The Bride isn’t a good movie by any stretch, but it’s strangely one I enjoyed more than it deserves, and I don’t regret watching it. It’s a vibe, and you should never apologize for what you vibe with.

I really enjoyed this movie a lot. From my point of view, The Bride was a very entertaining film with great visuals and a strong atmosphere from beginning to end. The story kept my attention the whole time, and the character of Ida was especially interesting to watch develop. The acting was solid, and the overall style of the movie made it feel unique compared to other recent films. Definitely worth watching, and I would give it 5 stars without hesitation.

Jesse Buckley... Wow, just wow. She was sublime and ferocious in this cousin to the Frankenstein movies (and story). The movie is frenetic, sad, funny, gruesome, and smart. I loved the 30's time frame, and the whole visual feast this movie gave me. The dialog is smart the performances spot on, They managed to give a nod to Young Frankenstein, Bonnie and Clyde, Ida Lupino (one of the first female directors. This definitely was a feminist creedo, no doubt and the love story between Ida/Penelope/Mary/The Bride (Buckley) Frankie (Bale) is heartbreakingly beautiful. Quote of the movie "I'd Rather Not"

I want to try to understand what Gyllenhaal was trying to do with this movie. I feel like it could’ve been a masterpiece but it was really all over the place. I’m a big fan of her and her brother which was why I was excited to see it since I’m not a big fan of horror movies in general which this really isn’t a horror movie. The good things were the visuals that filled the screen and the performances of the actors were fantastic but all in all it couldn’t save the movie.
