On one incredible night in 1964, four icons of sports, music, and activism gathered to celebrate one of the biggest upsets in boxing history. When underdog Cassius Clay, soon to be called Muhammad Ali, (Eli Goree), defeats heavy weight champion Sonny Liston at the Miami Convention Hall, Clay memorialized the event with three of his friends: Malcolm X (Kingsley Ben-Adir), Sam Cooke (Leslie Odom Jr.) and Jim Brown (Aldis Hodge).

A relatively weak performance from lead Eli Goree as Ali threatened to derail the film at times (including the beginning), but was largely buoyed by the above standouts and the steadying—if not thematically stifling—dialogue from Aldis Hodge's Jim Brown.

"One Night..." was decent. Nothing spectacular. The dialogue was forced and unrealistic. Not enough happens. The actors look like they are rehearsing instead of performing. It's too bad because a great movie is hidden somewhere within this story, but it never came through for me.

Quattro ottimi interpreti ed una sceneggiatura di altissima qualità; quasi totalmente costruita in due stanze in cui tutti e quattro posso esprimersi senza però esagerare con i movimenti del corpo. A farla da padroni sono soprattutto Malcolm X e Sam Cooke, agli antipodi negli ideali e nello stile di vita. Impossibile non rendersi conto della qualità impeccabile di ogni dialogo e di ogni punto di vista e non seguire con estremo interesse ogni dibattito ed ogni presa in giro. Forse l'unica cosa a mancare è un po' di empatia verso i personaggi, soprattutto verso Malcolm X ed i suoi ideali estremi, soprattutto quando legati alla religione. Ottimo film soprattutto per sceneggiatura ed interpretazioni.
