James B @Chigurh 1 hr ago Cliche plot twists borrowed from other movies, all characters sound the same, dialogue is a plethora of hackneyed phrases and testosterone fueled rages. A mob boss in prison says "They were thick as milkshakes!" Huh? Off-putting violence like stoning a girl to death while she is duct taped to a wheel chair, a burning pit for bags of dismembered bodies, a drugged teenager smashing his member with a hammer and on and on. Plenty of self serving product placement. Stereotyped characters act irrationally, making logical deductions that are unwarranted and lots of propitious coincidences to keep the atory moving, albeit slowly. Music from the 60s and 70s is endemic, like the writers are all old farts. This is a good example of lazy, sloppy writing, and the acting, while competent, is hardly inspiring! The pacing is the standout: fast, yes, but more importantly tight. No dead air, no filler coasting on brand recognition. Every scene earns its place. Maria Sten is a revelation as Frances Neagly. She brings both the physical presence and command of character that Lee Child wrote into the page — a faithful, fully realized version, not a watered-down one for TV. She carries the show with quiet authority. What impressed me most was the balance struck with Reacher himself. Bookending the season with him — present at the start and finish, but stepping back to let Neagly and her new team claim the spotlight — was exactly right. It honors the original series without overshadowing this one. This first season felt like coming home while breaking new ground. Highly recommended. I also loved when she would show on Reacher so I was happy to have more of her. I watched with my husband and we both agreed.
