After slipping through a mirror, Alice (Mia Wasikowska) finds herself back in Underland with the White Queen (Anne Hathaway), the Cheshire Cat, the White Rabbit, Tweedledee and Tweedledum. Her friends tell her that the Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp) is in a funk over the loss of his family. Hoping to save his loved ones, Alice steals the Chronosphere from Time (Sacha Baron Cohen) to travel into the past. While there, she encounters the younger Hatter and the evil Red Queen (Helena Bonham Carter).

I personally love this movie, especially how visually stunning it is. The story is built well also, when I just want to watch something comforting and visually interesting I’d turn to this movie any day.

I love the first Alice in Wonderland by Tim Burton and I use to like this sequel too. I might’ve given it a positive review back when it came out, but after watching it again more recently, my opinion has drastically changed. There are good ideas every once in a while, but they’re jumbled in a complete mess. The scene where Alice steps through the mirror and falls from the sky into Wonderland (or Underland) was very cool. I also like the tea party scene and mental institution bit. The flashback showing how the Red Queen got her gigantic head was well done too, but everything else is meh. The whole time travelling plot is just too ridiculous, even for an Alice movie. I really wish that Burton came back to direct it, but even so, I'm not sure he could make up for the poorly conceived script.

No idea what the majority of these poor reviews are about, but I have to believe these folks are just overthinking it. This is a beautiful mixed animation remake. The quality of film and actors are absolutely fantastical. I come from a background of graphic design and architectural photography, as well as just being a big movie buff. I understand sometimes people just get over educated and it gets in the way of sharing a valuable review to the layman. If you’re in the mood for a playful, magical fantasy, then dive into this, you’re gonna love it. I’ve seen it perhaps three times and I will continue to watch it in the coming years.
