Logan D Dec 22 During the Christmas season in Korea, a reluctant soon-to-be-father crashes his car and finds himself in a dark forest. A young girl finds him and leads him to a mysterious house in the middle of nowhere. It's no wonder this is cited as one of the strongest modern Korean dark fantasies. I'd say it's one of the strongest world wide. It's as ghoulish as a Grimm Fairy Tale. Although not entirely original, this deeply folkloric and morally bleak reimagines the story thru nightmare logic, innocence, and menace. I loved the balance of childlike aesthetics and moral horror. Buffy fans will know it's the fault of the bunnies. There are bunnies all over the place in the thoughtfully designed house. Buffy joke aside, rabbits are generally seen as positive in Korean lore. The only rationale I can conceive for their symbolism in the film is they cannot go backwards and are delicate. Great cinematography and performances and a solid suspenseful narrative will keep you locked in all the way through. A profound and satisfying ending ties everything together perfectly. The plot is a little bit odd at times but it helps contribute to the dreamlike feel of the film.
