Very true to the spirit and humour of Hergé's legendary books, with a cast of lookalikes chasing a stack of gold bequeathed to Captain Haddock. The plot is secondary to the zippy direction and performances. However, these are little mistakes that one would forgive, especially because the film is riddled with numerous magical allusions to the comics. In fact some situations are emulated to the detail. The film might not be to the liking of everyone, but surely a fan will enjoy it and probably love it. See more 05/30/2013 Comparable to Robert Altman's Popeye, the Belgian icon's 1961 adventure sports a game cast who look their parts, especially the youthful Jean-Pierre Talbot as the titular reporter down to the quiff, and some decent action sequences and slapstick from Haddock and The Thompsons, but like the aforementioned 80s film, also feels padded and meandering at points, with long stretches of Tintin, Haddock and Snowy just walking/driving/biking to places, the sole purpose being to show off the budget and sun drenched locations in the Mediterranean, and thus dragging the pacing of what is meant to be 'a fun family adventure' down with it.
