Some ups and downs of tone and street situations led to exaggeration, but if you want a light time with sexual jokes a spicy jokes, this film will give you a bit of laughter without any big consequences. [Full Review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Wasserman clearly feels more comfortable in the personal rather than the political realm, but all the same, there’s something radical in Hanna’s realization she just wants to be mediocre as her grand point of satisfaction. Go to Full Review

Healthy sexual pleasure is certainly important. Instead of encouraging the thoughtlessness that can accompany the pursuit of random sexual pleasure for its own sake, perhaps a real friend could tell Hanna to imbue her life with more thought-full-ness. Go to Full Review

Marco L @decatur555 6d The Year I Started Masturbating is a wonderful little gem about a woman whose apparently successful life collapses and forces her to discover who she is without constantly trying to please everyone else. Katia Winter is superb as Hanna, bringing beauty, humor, selfishness, vulnerability and real complexity to a character who makes many mistakes but never stops feeling human. The film uses sexual self-discovery as part of a much broader journey involving work, motherhood, friendship, identity and self-worth. What impressed me most is that it avoids the predictable, sugar-coated ending a more conventional American film might have chosen. Hanna does not need a new perfect romance or a magically repaired life. She grows through adversity and begins to understand that she does not have to prove her value to anyone. It felt shallow and the growth the character experienced seemed to be to just embrace who she was already but no longer question that. See more M. Z @RT79409497 02/03/2025 This was more the definition of spousal abuse- dealing with a full blown narcissistic husband than anything to do with finding “herself” sexually. The husband’s lines need to be re-written. At the end of the film im wondering why he was even in the scenes? See more Lees706 @RT18055207 03/30/2024 Save an hour and a half of your life from total nonsense. See more Sterling L @RT67182888 09/27/2023 If you are a fan of Scandinavian cinematic quirkiness then you will find enough to keep you watching. But it ultimately fails to deliver a punchline about the human condition or see any real change in the main character that makes you think. It's like they wrote 2/3 of the movie and then forgot to finish it. See more Read all reviews
