Lex ("PEN15's" Anna Konkle) and Mani ("Coming 2 America's" Jermaine Fowler) are a happily married young couple, running their dream artisanal bakery in Los Angeles and excited about starting a family together. A trip to a tropical island resort for a friend's destination wedding, coinciding with Lex's ovulation cycle, feels like the perfect opportunity to conceive. But good vibes and high hopes are cut short when, shortly after their arrival to paradise, Lex accidentally drops her friend's (Aparna Nancherla, "Search Party") baby in front of all their friends. Paradise becomes purgatory for our couple as recriminations, passive-aggression and old wounds begin to permeate the island reunion and throw Mani and Lex's future into deep uncertainty.

...a collection of characters who are thoroughly unlikable but great fun to watch. Alas, while they are indeed one odious bunch, they wear out their welcome long before we’re subjected to one last cheap joke and mercifully fading to black.

There was a more nuanced (and humorous) depiction of parental and marital anxiety to be had, but The Drop at least concludes with a unique and heartwarming message–the saving grace for an uneven, sort-of-funny comedy.

Jermaine Fowler's subtle humor was what I appreciated most but the rest of the casting felt off. Maybe it was more the writing than the casting or the pace. I didn't care about any of the characters except for Fowler. It had a depressing feel to it all. A group of uninteresting, saddish people I wish I had never been introduced to.

One of the worst movies I've seen in a very long time. None of the characters were likeable, and some were downright gross (like the pervy teen and his touchy feely father). It was like a mash-up of plots that never came together. The whole time I was wondering, "why are these people friends?" and they didn't seem like they were. They acted like people who didn't know each other. Hard pass

THE DROP's shocking and funny premise really only serves to elevate tensions among the group, and this little movie soon settles into its stride as a rather subdued comedy of manners. Chuckle-worthy, but not much more.
