Furthermore, the ending feels like a step backward, sending the main character back to an unsupportive partner instead of letting her grow independently. Ultimately, while the film plays it safe and treats harsh leadership as a simple rite of passage, it remains a visually beautiful conversation starter about modern career success. Meryl Streep is a true power house that takes over every scene that she's in. You love and hate her for how she treats others. But in the end come to an understanding as to how brutal the fashion industry is. Anne Hathaway plays her role to a T. You follow along her journey as every choice brings about changes. Good and bad. In the end she makes the best choice for herself. Tucci's role is both heart warming and heartbreaking. His kindness and bluntness play hand in hand. You go along for all the ups and downs he faces through out the film. His dedication is unwavering even when it's uncertain it will be rewarded. The harsh reality that not everything works out as you hoped hits hard. Yet the dream lives on. Highly recommend this movie all these years later. I plan to watch the sequel over the summer. It's wonderful knowing that such a film has endured for over a decade. It deserves that greatness. It also reminded me why Anne Hathaway was such a huge crush of mine growing up. It’s still a rock-solid classic, though I realized I remembered it being funnier and a little less dramatic. That didn’t hurt the experience, though—it’s just a different movie than the one I’d built up in my head. See more Read all reviews
