Darcy (Dev Patel) and Daphne (Rosy McEwen) Davenport are freshly decamped from London and taking up residence in an isolated cottage deep in the Welsh countryside in search of creative renewal and acoustic inspiration. When the couple set about exploring their new environs, recording instruments in tow, Darcy stumbles upon a "faerie circle" that emits a strange, unidentifiable frequency; this odd discovery is followed closely by the appearance of an otherworldly child (Jade Croot) who claims to live nearby and is eager to befriend the Davenports. Soon the child becomes a fixture in their household, alternately ingratiating himself and raising suspicions, and exposing unacknowledged rifts and unexamined secrets that threaten to wreak psychological and spiritual havoc in the lives of his makeshift adoptive parents.

Very few films attempt to respectfully convey encounters with the otherworld, this does and with impact. Thankfully it doesn't try hand hold or over explain, as so much modern media does, leaves space for the imagination to breathe

Surprised this film has gotten so many bad reviews. For the most part, very creative and creepy. The ending isn't as good as the first 3/4 but is well worth a watch. Great performance by Jade Groot. I hope to see more of Bryn Chainey's work in the future.

Well acted, atmospheric and unpredictable story. It weaves Welsh folklore with a modern couple’s issues - and uses the sense of sound to create drama. It left a lingering sense of being unsettled while highlighting the beautiful landscape. Loved it.

Synopsis
