Director Blake Edwards’ legendary comedy The Pink Panther Strikes Again (1976) is genius. Having Chief Inspector Dreyfus go mad from Clouseau’s idiocy is such a hilarious premise, especially since he hires global assassins to murder Clouseau. It’s always been one of my all time favorite comedies ever since I was a kid. This movie has endless assassination attempts on Clouseau’s life by Dreyfus. There’s so many brilliant bits in this timeless comedy. Peter Sellers is a great sport to humiliate himself as the idiotic Chief Inspector Jacques Clouseau. Herbert Lom is outrageous as the now insane Former Chief Inspector Charles Dreyfus. Lesley-Anne Down is incredibly sexy as the sultry Russian spy Olga Bariosava. I’ve always loved her in this movie. Burt Kwouk gets a massive fight with Clouseau as his faithful karate butler Cato Fong. Ele, então, resolve fugir da instituição e põe em prática um plano: ele sequestra um cientista e o faz construir uma máquina com que ele chantageia as nações: entreguem Clouseau ou ele irá destruir o planeta. A partir daí, Clouseau passa a ser perseguido por assassinos profissionais de todo mundo. Aqui a fórmula começa a perder a sua força. Não graças à interpretação de Sellers. Lom transforma Dreyfus em uma espécie de vilão de quadrinhos ou do Bond, sempre prontos a destruir o mundo. O que alguns momentos soa mais exagerado do que engraçado, Mas ainda é uma boa comédia. This might have the edge because of the scope of the comedy. Strikes Again is the kitchen sink movie. You have slapstick, looney tunes elements with the death ray, pratfalls, subtle and blatant visual gags, funny verbal exchanges, and the best sequence in the whole series at the psychiatric hospital where Clouseau's mere presence reverses all of Dreyfus's progress.
