MEMORIES OF MY FATHER describes the life of Héctor Abad Gómez, a doctor and a human rights activist concerned with both his own children and the children of the underprivileged classes in the violent 1970s in Medellin, Colombia. At his home, you can breathe the vitality and creativity that are the result of a progressive education based on tolerance and love. But driven by sadness and rage when a terrible cancer takes the life of one of his daughters, Héctor devotes himself to the social and political causes of the time, without regard to his personal safety. This is an intimate story seen through the eyes of his only son, Héctor Abad Faciolince, one of the most outstanding writers in contemporary Colombia.

The film takes a heartfelt look at one of Colombia’s foremost human rights activists. Director Fernando Trueba adapts Héctor Abad Faciolince’s memoir with sensitivity while Sergio Iván Castaño cinematography making this a pleasurable viewing experience.

Bueno, hay diálogos extraños, momentos irregulares y en general la segunda mitad hay pocas cosas se siente descorazonada en comparación con la primera mitas, pero Javier Cámara ojala no mueras nunca

An amazing and emotional display of a loving story, based on a book, that portrays a beautiful caos in Medellin and Colombia. For those, who read the book, this will be particularly nostalgic.

Between 3.5 and 4 stars. Great adaptation (which, surprisingly, gets in problematic issues, such as the most autocritic and negative ones; but, in general, makes a good combination of the laughs and sufferings of this interesting family in Colomiba in the 70s) from a great book.

Sí tanto la vida como los libros del insípido Héctor Joaquín son del todo desabridos, su película es aun peor. Yo iba preparado a ver una película sobre la vida de Abad Faciolince, que si fue una gran persona, con todas las contradicciones que siempre cargan estos seres, pero me estrellé con la vida del pequeño Joaquín que me resultó tan aburrida como ladrilluda. El libro, es una maravilla, lo único decente que escribirá, y por eso fui a ver la cinta, y por Javier Cámara, que me cae en gracia, pero que desastre. El único actor principal que se salva es Cámara y, si acaso, Patricia Tamayo, de resto son una tristeza. Interesante volver a ver en pantalla, por unos pocos minutos, a Kepa Amuchastegui a sus 80 años y a Gustavo Angarita, a sus 79. Creo que eso fue lo mas interesante de este hueso melodramático que denigra la memoria de Abad Faciolince.
