Andrew T @RT72355796 2d This is what many people would say is your typical Quentin Tarantino movie. I do not necessarily agree. I do not love this movie. It is not exactly my cup of tea. I know Tarantino was mostly just making a live action version of animated Japanese samurai movies and shows. He does that somewhat well, but it is not the best idea for a movie in my opinion. With that being said, I do still like this movie at the end of the day. It is very entertaining. The style and the action and the soundtrack are as peak as any other good Tarantino movie. It was just a little too serious at times. I enjoyed the mindless fun stuff and I think if the whole movie was more like that, I would consider it to be a high tier Tarantino movie, but I don’t. See more Vixo S @vixo_six Jul 20 I have never felt particularly close to martial arts cinema, so Kill Bill: Volume 1 had to overcome a natural resistance that it never completely defeated. Its energy, visual confidence and iconic imagery are undeniable, but its homages often felt closer to parody than celebration. Uma Thurman is compelling dramatically, yet I rarely believed in her as a master martial artist. Her movements appear stiff, the sword feels like a prop, and the larger fights lose tension because the Bride seems almost untouchable. The excessive blood, strange sound effects and constant stylistic shifts created more distance than excitement. It is far too inventive and entertaining to call bad, but I admired its confidence more than I believed in its action. While the fight scenes are shot and edited in a way that keeps the action steaming forward, It is arguably very unrealistic and I found this a bit frustrating. Characters fly through the air from light kicks, recover from wounds immediately and at some point of the film they jump to unrealistic heights clearly tied to a pulley. I found these moments really jarring and while it fits the style of the genre it removed me from the action everytime this happened. It is however very well shot and the cuts and edits keep the action flowing at an incredible pace,; for fans of one man army movies its on point. The violence is graphic but almost to a comical effect. Blood sprays from peoples limbs like a garden sprinkler and it often looks a little bit silly, the thought of watered down ketchup springs to mind. It's incredibly over the top and the film certainly values the style over the substance. Its classic Tarantino but not his best work. 7 / 10 See more Read all reviews
