Twenty-thousand years ago, Earth was a wondrous, prehistoric world filled with great danger, not the least of which is the beginning of the Ice Age. To avoid a terrible frostbite, the planet's majestic creatures - and a few small, slothful ones - begin migrating south. The story revolves around sub-zero heroes: a woolly mammoth, a saber-toothed tiger, a sloth and a prehistoric combination of a squirrel and rat, known as Scrat.

The highlight of the film turns out to be the character least integral to the "plot" ... [Scrat's] apparently eternal quest for a beloved chestnut...plays like a series of classic cartoon short subjects...

A movie that STILL holds up after 24 years is considered timeless. After watching this for the FIRST TIME (2026) i can say that all generations should see this film. Great storytelling followed with character development throughout the movie makes me realize that they don’t make them like they used to. I got more ice age films to watch but what a start!

This movie is really good, it's got fun compelling characters, a good story, Diego going from villain to hero is surprisingly compelling, returning the baby to his father is wholesome, the tone is dark that fits the world of the Ice Age Time period, emotional scenes, and of course the hysterical shenanigans of scrat the sabre-toothed Squirrel, of getting his accent back, the only problem is the animation quality it suffers from early CGI syndrome other than that, a really good movie 7/10

Pure childhood nostalgia. The humor still works, the characters are instantly lovable, and Scrat somehow steals every scene without saying a word. The animation has aged surprisingly well, and the heart of the story makes it timeless.

I recently rewatched this with my family and it was still quite enjoyable. You can tell the animation isn't as crisp as it is now, but it also doesn't look bad. Considering how bad some special effects looked in live-action films from the same time period, I think it's a great compliment to the animators that this movie looks as good as it does. The characters are all very funny and each gets their chance to shine. It's a very enjoyable family film that still holds up nearly 25 years later.
