The elements are there and you need to piece it altogether which makes it an even better watch. Some beautiful cinematography as well. Can be slow at times but wraps up in quite a satisfying climax. The concept had potential: identity, marriage, loneliness, artificial replacement, and what it means to truly know another person. That could have been fascinating. Instead, the movie was dry, slow, confusing, and emotionally empty. Even strong actors cannot save a story that gives the audience nothing to hold onto. There was little to no character development, no emotional attachment, and no clear reason to care about either person or their marriage. The pacing was painfully slow, the atmosphere felt lifeless, and the supposed psychological tension never arrived. The repeated intimate scenes also became excessive and felt like a substitute for actual depth or storytelling. By the end, the twist did not feel earned. Overall, this was a waste of an interesting premise: confusing, dull, emotionally flat, and deeply unsatisfying. See more Sal D @JustTheLaw Feb 2, 2026 Spoiler Alert There’s a lot of critique about this film….just not sure it’s worth reducing them all to a writing. Front and center is however the plot. If they can generate a functioning bio-mechanical clone, why not use it in space instead of Junior himself? Also, the level of cost and expensive for anyone to worry about leaving a spouse alone seems unbelievable too. There are threads of explanations - partial or otherwise - offered or implied, but none seem remotely satisfactory to me. Who know the clone was deployed? That was never clear in any way - yet, it is supposed to be a twist? And, how could Junior be completely emotionless watching the clone be disposed of in front of his eye? On top of that, the pacing is off, the run time too long given the plot, and the clarity of the narrative too amorphous. Bottom line: what a waste of the talents of Ronan and Mescal.
