English Vinglish, Gauri Shinde's first feature is a likeable film, which gives us a silky- smooth first half, a slowed-down second, broad-brushstroke-y characters, and an actress who makes it all work.

I enjoyed this a lot, especially the scene when she says “when you don’t like yourself you tend to hate everything connected to you and look for new things” that hit hard.

English Vinglish is a movie that completely melted my heart. Watching Shashi feel insecure because she cannot speak English felt so real and sad. But as she slowly learns the language and gets her confidence back, I felt a huge sense of pride and joy. Sridevi’s acting is pure magic. It is a sweet, deeply inspiring film that leaves you with a big smile and a wonderful feeling of hope.

This is not about romance between two countries, love which separated by time and distance, unapproved love. This about a good housewife who was very loyal and serve her family entirely. Her name is Shashi. She had side job as a laddu maker (Indian traditional cake). But one thing which become a family joke all the time was her inability to speak English.
