See more gwi-seok H @halmonipower Aug 17, 2026 stunning. in this age of sensory overstimulation, you have to slow down enough to take in this experience. shot in 35 mm film, it's a visual feast, many frames composed almost like paintings, richly meaningful tableaus. instead of trying to follow a chronological narrative, the viewer needs to just go for the ride, like listening to a grandmother tell a story that weaves in and out of time periods, flashing back, then jumping forward in time. the movie is largely silent, and told mostly through image, and closeups of faces, hands, gestures, textures. who knew a hand could convey so, so much. the film is emotionally power-packed, if you let yourself see and feel. sonically, the film is mostly rural mississippi outdoor sounds, providing a spacious, earthy setting. when i finished watching it on my laptop, i went back and watched certain scenes again, picking up even more detail and stitching the story together more neatly, since there were a few things i missed the first time. I felt like I was witnessing a very intimate conversation and was grateful for the privilege as I held my breath so as not to disrupt with my presence. But I also found it a frustrating one, one that lingered without giving any dramatic punch. It's painfully slow to the point of being inert. It's a sparsely worded and deeply emotional film that I couldn't really connect with. This is the directoral debut for Raven Jackson and you can see the talent. The film is non-linear and at times confusing. It mainly follows Mack, a Mississippi woman over some decades. We see vignettes through out the film concerning her family.
