See more Chris S @Janomi Jul 19 Gone in 60 Seconds is a very entertaining car-heist movie built around a simple, effective setup: steal 50 cars in one night or Memphis Raines’s brother dies. That gives the film a clear ticking clock, a big checklist, and an easy excuse for flashy cars, police pressure, criminal crews, and escalating mistakes. Nicolas Cage gives the movie exactly the cool, slightly offbeat energy it needs. Memphis is legendary, calm under pressure, and eccentric enough to stand apart from a standard action hero, and Cage makes him fun to follow. The supporting cast also adds personality, with Robert Duvall bringing warmth and Timothy Olyphant and Delroy Lindo applying pressure from different sides of the law. The 1967 Shelby GT500 is the movie’s most iconic image, with Eleanor feeling like Memphis’s final boss. The last chase is ridiculous and unrealistic, but completely enjoyable. Angelina Jolie is underused, but Gone in 60 Seconds is still slick, rewatchable, and a lot of fun.
