The film’s saving grace is Glenn Close, who delivers a fabulously wicked, scene-stealing performance as Cruella de Vil, elevated by stunning costume design. The dalmatian puppies remain adorable, and the practical sets are vibrant. However, the rest of the movie falls flat. The new human leads are painfully bland, and Gérard Depardieu’s cartoonish secondary villain is cringey. Noisy non-canine sidekicks, like a macaw with an identity crisis, steal screen time from the pups, while outdated CGI constantly breaks immersion. The film's biggest flaw is its jarring tone, wildly shifting between insulting slapstick and surprisingly sadistic scenes too dark for a G-rating. Ultimately, it’s a forgettable rehash that relies entirely on cute animals and an iconic villain to mask a weak script. Glenn Close couldn't save this movie as she was trying her best, but the film tries too hard on recapturing the magic the original and remake had, the story is a complete rip-off of Chicken Run (Which couldn't have been a coincidence as both films came out the same year), also the budget makes this look like a Direct to Video or a TV Movie. Directed by Kevin Lima, this sequel doubles down on the visual spectacle and canine cuteness, but struggles to match the originality and heart of the 1996 live-action hit. Glenn Close once again commands the screen as Cruella de Vil, delivering another gloriously theatrical performance — equal parts wicked and whimsical. Fresh from therapy and seemingly reformed, Cruella’s relapse into fur-loving madness provides the film’s best moments, thanks to Close’s total commitment and an array of outlandish costumes that practically deserve their own credits. Ioan Gruffudd and Alice Evans are serviceable as the human leads, though their storyline often takes a backseat to the film’s endless puppy antics. While the movie offers a few genuinely funny sequences and remains visually charming, it leans too heavily on slapstick and predictable plotting. Still, younger audiences will find plenty to wag their tails about, and the film’s good-natured energy keeps it from feeling like a cash-grab sequel.
