Nicely filmed, with some good action sequences, and a strong cast. I was caught unawares by the finesse, skill and subtlety throughout. The plot is simple, a man wins a valuable rifle in a shooting contest, loses it, regains it. I got so engrossed watching the movie and reading the subtitles, that I barely ever heard what Stewart or the film historian was saying. It’s always hard for me to pick Mann and Stewart’s best work together. But there’s just something about this film that encapsulates what I love about the western genre. It has everything you want. Shoutouts, friendship, brotherhood, revenge, an Indian attack on a cavalry, bank robbery, outlaws, a love story and Wyatt Earp. It’s not perfect but it’s darn close to it. See more Read all reviews
