See more Howie B @Howie10 Jul 18 It may have been made 76 years ago (even slightly older than me!), but remains one of those enduring classics from Hollywood, turning itself on the world of theatre and the live stage, while suggesting its ‘Own World’ to be a (superior implied) alternative. The movie has at its roots a story of a ruthless, calculating and ambitious actress determined to take all she can by whatever means. Its comedic appeal was probably unintended at the time, but what adds even more interest to a modern audience is the powerful performance of Bette Davis (pure magic… and as the song goes… those Bette Davis eyes). What a treat to attend a screening on a Saturday afternoon (remember Saturday matinees?) in a packed theatre which has been restored to its old world splendour. Mankiewicz optou por contar esta fábula de ambição no mundo do teatro, mas, com certeza, não seria necessário muitas modificações para o mundo de Hollywood. Os diálogos são verdadeiros duelos, principalmente dito por gente do talento de Bette Davis, Anne Baxter, Celeste Holm, Thelma Ritter e George Sanders.
