Florence Foster Jenkins (2016) Thelma Adams The material could have used a full-out comedic plot in the P. G. Wodehouse vein or something slyly sophisticated like Wes Anderson's The Grand Budapest Hotel. Instead it gets lost in the shallows -- along with Streep's Oscar chances.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot (2016) Thelma Adams Fey's female-driven comedy, written and directed by men, follows the tradition perfected by Evelyn Waugh in his 1938 novel Scoop. While his fish outta water story is hysterically funny and enduring; the forgettable WTF only delivers an occasional chuckle.

Testament of Youth (2014) Thelma Adams Lithe and serious Alicia Vikander stars in the gossamer-and-gritty, female-driven WW1 period drama. Adding in "Game of Thrones" Kit Harrington gives this PBS-style drama added John Snow oomph.

Tomorrowland (2015) Thelma Adams Tomorrowland is "Spy Kids" in space. Which turns out not be a bad thing although it may come as a surprise to those who have watched George Clooney do the P.R. rounds, hefting his epic charm as if it were Thor's hammer.

Welcome to Me (2014) Thelma Adams In the burnt-toast black Sundance comedy, Kristen Wiig goes dark and bipolar without losing her shield of likeability. It's a superpower to be marveled at, like the ability to carry on a long conversation without looking at one's mobile device.
