Kara is set in Ramanathapuram in 1991, when Iraq and the United States were locked in an intense war. Against this backdrop, the story unfolds over 16 days. Karasaami is forced to revisit certain aspects of his life that he had chosen to walk away from. He tries to protect and support the people who depend on him, and in doing so, faces various consequences and life-altering turns. I have presented this as an emotional suspense thriller, blending engaging storytelling with deep emotions.

The film’s strengths lie in performance and craft. Its limitations stem from writing that cannot consistently support its ambition. Kara engages with complex emotional material, even if unevenly. Go to Full Review

What Kara dishes out — after an overlong 161-minute runtime — is melodramatic fare that cannot make up its mind on what it wants to be. Go to Full Review

Harish N @harish_napa 5d The 2026 action thriller is a decent one time watch that ultimately struggles to break free from a predictable narrative path. Dhanush is exceptionally good in the lead role, delivering a physically demanding and gritty performance that anchors the film through its most routine stretches. He brings a visceral intensity to the explosive action sequences, while Mamitha Baiju provides a brilliant and high quality performance that gives the family dynamic its necessary emotional weight. The writing starts out smart, utilizing a unique 1991 backdrop to build genuine tension early on. However, the pacing drags heavily after the interval, settling into a beaten to death storyline that tests your patience. It remains a fair cinematic experience carried entirely by the talent of its lead actor. See more Prabhathalovesmovies T @RT63593846 May 2 Vignesh Raja's Kara is two movies rolled into one. The first is a rural thriller about financial exploitation with the subplot of Gulf war and its impact. The second is the father and son emotional thread. The latter doesn't quite work but the first makes an impact. The grey shades of both Dhanush and Suraj Venjaramoodu also help the movie.
