The investigative thriller, in which Mammootty plays a serial killer, is a dull, dour, and deeply frustrating film. Go to Full Review

Kalamkaval could have become just another slow-burn serial killer despite some of its original takes, but Mammootty and Vinayakan elevate it to the next level through the force of their performances. Go to Full Review

shamna Dec 8 Screenplay and the characters played by Mammukka and Vinayakan See more Nona Dec 6 I walked out admiring the film — not for the plot (weve seen similar ones recently), but for Mammootty and Vinayakan who hold the whole thing together. Mammootty is fascinating as a serial killer — cold, deliberate, unsettlingly calm. Even the way he handles cigarettes becomes character. Vinayakan plays it low-key and grounded, stripped of his usual mannerisms, building tension through silence and restraint. The first half is slightly repetitive. The second half picks up as the killer stays ahead. The only place it slips is the climax — could have landed sharper. But this film works because of these two actors. If OTT drops were timely, Id say wait. Right now, theatre might be the only way to catch this phase of Mammootty — and what feels like the fourth comeback in his career. After the haunting restraint of Raghavan in Munnariyippu, Mammootty returns in Kalamkaval with another chillingly controlled performance, stepping into the psyche of a predator inspired by Cyanide Mohan a man who trapped unmarried women with promises of love and stability. Mammootty remains the film's biggest asset, delivering a performance sharpened by stillness and cold precision. Vinayakan matches him with a brooding, tightly coiled presence, though the screenplay could have offered him more depth. Despite strong performances, the uneven momentum prevents Kalamkaval from fully blooming into the gripping crime drama it aims to be. Ultimately, 'Kalamkaval' is a film elevated by its lead actors and its atmospheric world, even if the storytelling occasionally falters. It remains a watch for Mammootty's enigmatic presence and the unsettling psychological duel at its core. Verdict : Blockbuster.
