Par H @Parhwy 1d A Orillas del Mar (2016) (By the Sea) is a 78-minute-long drama from the Dominican Republic which I saw on Prime in 2026. This is a miserly, miserable film. Miserly in terms of script, dialogue and such aid to the viewer. Miserable in terms of the main character seems likeable yet nothing blooms. Not helped by Amazon Prime’s enshittified description of this film (it gave the impression there would be struggle and hope). There is no hope. Sadly, in reality this almost-silent, hungry, beggarly story plays out a million times in the time it takes to watch the film. And yet it could almost be a Greek tragedy. It’s not. Could be. The acting, filming, scenery and sets feel authentic, unencumbered, almost like a documentary sans narration and self-awareness. Some production/editing shoirt-changes the viewer with perplexity of 'what's going on now?" Rewatch? No. Recommend? No. 3/10. See more Read all reviews
