Park Avenue (2025) Rosalynn Try-Hane Park Avenue is a refreshing and insightful look at adult mother daughter relationship dynamic free of melodrama. It is also propelled by two powerful performances and incredible chemistry between Fiona Shaw and Katherine Waterstone.

Little Miss Sociopath (2025) Rosalynn Try-Hane Miv Evans direction is for the most part assured although the direction at times is choppy, which is actually of benefit to the this film because at times the dialogue, especially the inner monologue can wear a little on the nerves.

Birdsong (2024) Rosalynn Try-Hane After watching this documentary you will never listen to bird song in quite the same way again. Sound is something we take for granted but Birdsong will make you stop and think about the importance of nature and birds.

Martha (2024) Rosalynn Try-Hane This documentary did that rare thing, it got under the skin of the icon and showed the woman.

Hard Truths (2024) Rosalynn Try-Hane ... Yet another Black woman being shown as tragic and mad. I am tired of seeing this on screen. It feels reductive rather than showing Black women as complex, rather than tired tropes. For that reason the film just left me feeling empty and disappointed.

Mickey Hardaway (2023) Rosalynn Try-Hane For a debut feature, this is coherent and well made. It took me on an emotional journey and kept my attention.

Blue (2024) Rosalynn Try-Hane A sensitive and delicate look at grief and ultimately hope.

Wicked Little Letters (2023) Rosalynn Try-Hane Wicked Little Letters is crude, a bit crass, and certainly nothing to write home about. It’s such a shame because the underlying story is a story worthy of the spotlight. I just wish it had a better script.

Next Goal Wins (2023) Rosalynn Try-Hane Yes, this movie is full of self deprecating humour and silliness but it still delivers.
Posted Jan 04, 2024Edit critic review
Femme (2023) Rosalynn Try-Hane Femme is an outstanding debut film.
Posted Jan 04, 2024Edit critic review
Poor Things (2023) Rosalynn Try-Hane Poor Things is Yorgos Lanthimos’s most accessible film -- it is both surreal and yet solid in the way both the story and characters develop. It is a joy to watch.

The Book of Clarence (2023) Rosalynn Try-Hane The Book of Clarence is subversive and bold and that’s what makes it a refreshing watch.

Saltburn (2023) Rosalynn Try-Hane Saltburn knows it looks good. It’s just a shame it doesn’t know which story to tell.
Posted Jan 03, 2024Edit critic review
Shoshana (2023) Rosalynn Try-Hane Soshana is well made but it’s not bold. It is all very even handed so as not to risk offending and that’s the problem.

The Nettle Dress (2023) Rosalynn Try-Hane If you have an hour and want to be completely transported then check out this documentary.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 (2023) Rosalynn Try-Hane All you’re trying to do is recapture the magic and sadly My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 just can’t find it.
Posted Sep 21, 2023Edit critic review
You Hurt My Feelings (2023) Rosalynn Try-Hane There’s good chemistry between the two leads and I was pleased to see an older woman with a younger man, long may that continue on screen.

Brainwashed: Sex-Camera-Power (2022) Rosalynn Try-Hane It will make you see the way women are portrayed on screen differently.

The Son (2022) Rosalynn Try-Hane The ending is predictable but the journey towards it interesting.

Saint Omer (2022) Rosalynn Try-Hane Bold, provocative and unapologetic.

The Whale (2022) Rosalynn Try-Hane Incredibly moving.

Stranger at the Gate (2022) Rosalynn Try-Hane Short but powerful.

The Inspection (2022) Rosalynn Try-Hane The Inspection is an outstanding film that tackles some big themes and largely does this well.

Mr. Malcolm's List (2022) Rosalynn Try-Hane I enjoyed it. Just let it wash over you.
Posted Sep 01, 2022Edit critic review
Eiffel (2021) Rosalynn Try-Hane What lets Eiffel down, as ironic as it sounds is the love story. It feels a bit contrived. Lovely as it is, I could have done with less of it and more about the man and his buildings.

Duty Free (2020) Rosalynn Try-Hane on one level [it's] a love letter from a son to his mother who gave him opportunities she could never have. On the other, it is a meditation on ageism, visibility and how the most vulnerable are treated in American society.

One of These Days (2020) Rosalynn Try-Hane Joe Cole manages to convey Kyle’s vulnerability and fragile ego without actually saying very much.
Posted Apr 01, 2022Edit critic review
Benediction (2021) Rosalynn Try-Hane Benediction is at its most sublime when the action is centred during the period of the First World War and the roaring 20s.

Bliss (2021) Rosalynn Try-Hane A refreshing and thought provoking love story between two sex workers that throw up questions regarding identity, vulnerability and attraction.

Boiling Point (2021) Rosalynn Try-Hane Finally, we have what feels like an authentic look at chef life. Boiling Point is a visceral and heart pounding look at the reality: the highs, lows and all the humour that happen during one night of service.

No Time to Die (2021) Rosalynn Try-Hane I was left neither shaken nor stirred but rather perplexed.

A Thousand Cuts (2020) Rosalynn Try-Hane It's a really moving documentary and one that reminds us of the sacrifices others make to ensure that the truth is heard.
Posted Mar 26, 2021Edit critic review
Ammonite (2020) Rosalynn Try-Hane It felt disjointed. I loved God's Own Country but with this film, Francis Lee misses the mark for me which is down to the script rather than his direction.

The 8th (2020) Rosalynn Try-Hane An important and poignant documentary.
Posted Mar 19, 2021Edit critic review
The Reunited States (2020) Rosalynn Try-Hane The Reunited States will most certainly light a fire in you, especially this idea of dehumanising and division that so many countries endure due to the rise of identity politics and casual racial bias and hatred.
Posted Mar 05, 2021Edit critic review
White Lie (2019) Rosalynn Try-Hane The entire success of the film aside from the pacing is down to the astounding performance of Kacey Rohl.
Posted Jan 16, 2021Edit critic review
County Lines (2019) Rosalynn Try-Hane County Lines is powerful and delivers a visceral gut punch that will leave you thinking by the end of the film: how did we get here.
Posted Dec 04, 2020Edit critic review
Endless (2020) Rosalynn Try-Hane This film just plods along like a Hallmark type film but takes itself far too seriously and neither the script nor the acting can meet a reasonable standard.
Posted Nov 25, 2020Edit critic review
Soros (2019) Rosalynn Try-Hane An interesting portrayal and worthwhile documentary.
Posted Nov 20, 2020Edit critic review
Summer of 85 (2020) Rosalynn Try-Hane This is a coming of age story that is refreshingly different and nuanced. The Summer of '85 reminds us of how everything is dramatic to the young and, your first love is the one that cuts the deepest.

Monsoon (2019) Rosalynn Try-Hane As a film it needs something more than it currently has, even 85 minutes feels too long.
Posted Oct 02, 2020Edit critic review
23 Walks (2020) Rosalynn Try-Hane Cinema needs more films like these showing older people who have complex back stories and aren't happily married for forty years.

Hurt by Paradise (2019) Rosalynn Try-Hane An interesting and refreshing look at a diverse range of female characters we simply don't see enough on screen.
Posted Sep 17, 2020Edit critic review
Waiting for the Barbarians (2019) Rosalynn Try-Hane Waiting For The Barbarians is a slow burn of a film that gets distracted by the social commentary and the story suffers.
