Critics Consensus

While not as dramatically strong as it is technologically, TRON is a visually stunning piece of science fiction that represents a landmark work in the history of computer animation.

To say that Tron envisions technology as it has never been seen before is an understatement. No movie more deserves the praise, state of the art. Go to Full Review

To put it bluntly -- and entirely outside the familiar realm of movie entertainment -- this is Something Else. Go to Full Review

Some of the effects are worth a fanfare and there is even a cracker-barrel bit of moralising... But the fun is at kiddy-level. Go to Full Review

In the end, TRON seems to have been written by a computer, as well as realized by one. Go to Full Review

Just mute that sound and marvel at the groovy computer imagery -- the plot doesn’t provide any real reason for the volume to be raised. Go to Full Review

An impressive technical feat that undoubtedly influenced cinema history. Alas all of the new and novel special effects can't salvage Tron's narrative and character shortcomings Go to Full Review

dan M. @AstroCreep79 17h This is a favorite film of mine, cutting edge graphics in its time, fun idea and loved the whole world living inside the machine See more Jake H @Jake82 Jan 18 For the graphics of the time its really good, the story line is great. See more Ed R @JustcallmeER Jan 12 One of the worst production movies I have yet to watch. See more Noah H @Noah85 Jan 11 A cult classic from the '80s. The story may be simplistic, but Tron 1982 does enough to make up for that simplicity in those areas. The CGI definitely looks dated by modern standards, but I feel like that's part of its charm. I can't imagine what it would have been like seeing this movie for the first time in theaters. The action is really fun and I feel like Jeff Bridge's Kevin Flynn has excellent chemistry with Cindy Morgan's Lora. Wendy Carlos's score is excellent too. My main problem with this movie is Kevin Flynn himself. There isn't really a whole lot to him. He's just a cool guy computer programmer who loves playing video games. I felt like they could have developed his character a little more. Oh, well. Despite these problems, I'm sure you can have a fun time with Tron 1982. END OF LINE!!!! See more tiago m Jan 9 Chato pra cacete, vilão bosta, os personagens dados são muito qualquer coisa, o roteiro é genérico pra caramba, não tem imersão nesse mundo. Não tem muito o que salvar, é ruim. See more Ry N @RyGuy Jan 7 Dillinger creates an evil AI, Master Control Program, to protect his tech company, ENCOM, but Flynn tries hacking in to prove he's the creator of their best-selling videogame with the help of Alan and Lora using a program called Tron. Before he can, MCP uses an experimental laser to transport Flynn into The Grid and forces him to play in death games. The story is great with Flynn having the power to rewrite anything, but the CGI can be hard to watch. See more Read all reviews
