While scavenging for copper wire, Detroit teenager Eli Solinski stumbles upon a high-tech gun that holds special powers. When his brother, Jimmy, lands in trouble with a local crime boss, the two siblings take the mysterious weapon and go on the run. Eli and Jimmy now find themselves in a life-and-death battle against an army of thugs and two heavily armored, futuristic soldiers who want their gun back.

KIN is an underwhelming film that struggles to engage. Despite James Franco and Zoë Kravitz in the cast, performances feel misjudged, and the young lead fails to carry the story, making it hard to invest in the narrative. The screenplay is chaotic, blending family drama, action, and sci-fi without focus, with the futuristic weapon feeling forced and absurd. Direction lacks cohesion, leaving scenes drifting with no clear tone or purpose, and moments meant to be suspenseful or exciting fall flat due to poor pacing. Visuals are competent but cannot save the weak story. Overall, KIN is frustrating and disappointing; its ambitious genre mix collapses under weak writing, miscast actors, and unfocused execution, making it hard to recommend to viewers seeking a compelling or entertaining experience.

Kin is one of them hidden gems that I stumbled across purely by accident, it's entertaining from start to finish and is one of those films which you want to keep going, or at least want a second installment to see what becomes of the young lad. I would say that if you want to be entertained without having to concentrate on a twisting story line then kin is definitely worth looking at.
