But the movie itself turns out to be a much shoddier bit of carpentry... it builds a ponderous Blumhouse haunted house-one whose "scares" are just hints of a secret the audience will figure out faster than intended.

I like this thriller. It’s a hidden gem. A gripping and dark tale that makes you think to who is the sinister. The film wasn’t trying to be scary, or twisted with a puzzling ending. It just worked with good characters.

What could've been a terrifying "House of Leaves"-like cosmic horror is instead a pretty rote and run-of-the-mill horror story. The acting is solid, especially Bacon, but David Koepp clearly can't write like he used to.

Well, Bacon in anything is always great but this story was tipid and done to much better effect in numerous other flicks. It's not a keeper and maybe only watchable if you're a big Bacon fan and even than... Meh.
