Three small-town friends, Alexandra (Cher), Jane (Susan Sarandon) and Sukie (Michelle Pfeiffer), each having lost the man in their lives, are feeling unfulfilled -- until a furtive stranger, Daryl Van Horne (Jack Nicholson), arrives and begins courting each of them in turn. Eventually, Daryl tells them that they are witches. But as the three friends spend more time at his mansion, enjoying themselves and learning about their powers, they begin to worry about Daryl's ultimate intentions.

It's a shame that our trio of leading ladies don't get more to do (it is called 'The Witches of Eastwick', after all), but it's difficult to hold that against it when Nicholson's performance is so devilishly good.

The movie is clearly more interested in Nicholson's devil than the trio of women and the screenplay drops the queer characters, but the film is synonymous with cherries, polygamy and that over the top climax

The cast is packed with legendary actors. It leaves me wondering: does the devil actually exist, or is he merely a manifestation of the three women’s collective desires? It seems that in this town, whenever any three women gather, their shared thoughts possess a formidable power. The scenes of them playing the cello and dancing in the hall are both eerie and strangely charming. The actresses are absolutely fabulous, especially with those iconic, colorful 'perm' hairstyles. What I found puzzling, however, was their choice to give birth to the babies even after realizing what kind of creature the father was. They couldn't even bring themselves to hurt the devil—only to scare him away. They are truly far too kind.

4.5 * If you come across a film that you think you would put in your Top 100 of all time. Deserves 4+ Stars. This movie is not a learned classic. More like a Cult film, but at the end of the day a must see comedy. It's a good for you movie. It will make you laugh and giggle.

George Miller, who directed the Mad Max trilogy, has made The Witches of Eastwick a provocative movie, decidedly unwholesome without being cynical, when so many movies today are either sentimental, or cynical in a transparently sentimental way.

I remember asking my parents to see The Witches of Eastwick when I was a kid, because I liked scary movies. They told me it was not the kind of witch movie I would like. My parents were right. Even with the star power of Michelle Pfeiffer, Susan Sarandon, Cher & Jack Nicholson, the directing of George Miller and a score by John Williams, this movie can’t conjure up a comprehensible storyline or coherent dialogue. And the laughable visual effects probably didn’t hold up even back when it was released. I have no idea why it was monetarily successful, but The Witches of Eastwick is a waste of time.
