In 2002, cable news producer Kim Barker decided to shake up her routine by taking a daring new assignment in Kabul, Afghanistan. Dislodged from her comfortable American lifestyle, Barker finds herself in the middle of an out-of-control war zone. Luckily, she meets Tanya Vanderpoel, a fellow journalist who takes the shellshocked reporter under her wing. Amid the militants, warlords and nighttime partying, Barker discovers the key to becoming a successful correspondent.

If Whiskey Tango Foxtrot isn't as incisive or as penetrating as it potentially could have been, for a major studio satirical look at the war in Afghanistan there's still plenty of food for thought here.

As the film starts to jumble many more characters (some who feel so unnecessary) and thematic notions, it becomes a jarring experience of a war film that feels as if the film is at war with itself.

This is my second viewing of this movie. I don t know if its because i m 10 years older(74) But this movie was much more interesting to me the second time around. I did nt see the time go by,no stop for the bathroom,totaly captivated by the atmospheric feel of this movie. Bravo to Tina Fay,!!!!unpretentious talented woman.

Better than expected and with a first-rate supporting cast, I didn't at any point buy Fey as a competent field correspondent, but there were several laugh out loud moments sprinkled in amongst the drama of the situations in the film.

Revisiting this recently, I was struck by how well it holds up. I was skeptical of the cast on my first watch, but coming back to it, I was genuinely impressed by the storyline and the film’s deeper message. The themes feel even more resonant now. It’s a rewarding experience to return to—the plot and heart of the movie really shine. Definitely worth a second look if you were initially on the fence!

Potentially the best movie I’ve ever seen. If you’ve lived through anything in your life that you referred to as a “war” and tried to keep a semblance of normalcy, this film will be medicine for your soul. The contrast between graphic violence and vitriolic comedy will keep you engaged on a level unparalleled in modern cinema. Five stars twice over.
