Critics Consensus

Providing Alan Ritchson an ideal vehicle to flex his brawny charisma, War Machine occasionally clanks when it comes to character depth but otherwise soldiers on to deliver an awesome dose of action spectacle.

Craig Mathieson The Age (Australia) Mar 16
2.5/5
It's a science-fiction survival film – the Ranger candidates are carrying blanks – with trace elements of Transformers, Battleship, and Spielberg's War of the Worlds. Somewhat derivative, but modestly enjoyable. Go to Full Review
Frank Scheck The Hollywood Reporter Mar 9
The film’s R rating is well-deserved thanks to the profusion of burnt and dismembered bodies on view in the alien machine’s wake. Unfortunately, the screenplay by Hughes and co-writer James Beaufort leaves much to be desired. Go to Full Review

It makes for a slicker-than-usual streaming premiere, an easy, drink-your-way-through-it Friday night option for those who wish to remain entirely unchallenged. Go to Full Review
Connor Petrey Pop Culture Leftovers May 17
War Machine is spoiled by a severe lack of tension and while literally everyone is on the table for the slaughter, the kills by this extraterrestrial lifeform become repetitive before it even begins… Go to Full Review
James Croot The Post NZ May 5
While thankfully this is no Battlefield Earth, Battle: Los Angeles or Battleship, War Machine doesn’t really offer up many surprising beats as a fairly predictable scenario plays out. Go to Full Review

War Machine is one of the most agonizingly boring films in recent memories, reveling in its garden-variety elements while failing to take advantage of what little novelty it does possess. Go to Full Review

d L @DL123 5h The acting was bad and Richeson looked like a gorilla in a bad fitting uniform See more J T @RT54362981 23h God awful acting, and way to dishonor the Ranger Regiment. Should have got an advisor that actually knows the regiment. Even a basic infantryman in 3 years could tell this was poorly written and such a lack of planning. Story was basically Terminator meets Predator. Oh, and Alan Ritchinson is a pompous douche bag. Definitely not of Ranger character or any of the stanzas in the Ranger creed. I told others not to watch it with how bad it was. See more Arthur R @RT88125953 2d The best way I can describe it is if someone did a modern remake of predator, except the predator is a transformer and there is a ham-fisted attempt at giving Arnie an emotional backstory. It's not nearly as much of a trainwreck as it could have been and there is some fun action, but the dialogue is clunky, as are some of the effects and the acting is low calibre... Unless you're looking to waste away some time without needing to pay too much attention, better leave this machine unplugged See more Alfredo S @alsuarez 2d Este no era el tipo de película que me esperaba definitivamente. PD: 15 tenía razón See more Dustin M @RT00225980 3d This movie was absolutely horrible. Left a bad taste in my mouth that Jack Daniel’s couldn’t even wash away. Please don’t waste your time on this film. This film is like what high school rotc kids think the military is actually like. See more Marcel K @RT63701211 3d This movie made me create an acount in rotten tomates just to prevent good people from wasting time watching it. I'm and old dude, creating an account takes time. I hope my great effort was not in vain. See more Read all reviews
