Something of a tonal misfire: a supernatural thriller that is almost completely lacking in scares and an examination of cultural differences that does not seem to be entirely certain of what it is trying to say.

It's derivative of other films in its subgenre. It never fulfills all the aspects of the body horror of exorcism films or the gore of Ahmed's violence when under possession.

With Three, Al Khaja kicks it up a notch and delves deeper into the supernatural and all its creepy, vast symbolical splendour. And she does it with a fine pace and cinematic eye, even if the film stumbles at times with technical missteps.
