See more Chris S @Janomi Jun 26 This Is 40 has plenty of relatable observations about marriage, parenting, aging, and the everyday frustrations of adulthood. Judd Apatow clearly understands these stages of life, and when the movie focuses on those honest moments, it's funny, recognizable, and occasionally insightful. Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann have effortless chemistry, making Pete and Debbie feel like a believable long-married couple. The supporting cast is equally strong, with Melissa McCarthy, Albert Brooks, and John Lithgow all stealing scenes whenever they appear. Unfortunately, the film doesn't know when to end. At well over two hours, many scenes drag on far longer than necessary, and it often feels like a collection of arguments and comedy sketches instead of a focused story. The constant bickering also becomes repetitive, making several characters harder to enjoy as the movie goes on. There are good moments throughout, but a tighter script and a sharper edit would have made a much stronger film. See more Bruce W @Maverick1926 Nov 30 Somehow I’ve managed not to have ever seen this movie before now. Having seen the clip where Paul Rudd, Leslie Mann & Melissa McCarthy are in the principal’s office several times on social media, I thought I would give it a go and chose today as Netflix informed me it was leaving the platform soon. Despite its age I found it very funny and great performances from all. I still failed to recognise Megan Fox not being a fan of the Transformers movies and having only really seen her in the woeful Expendables 4. May have to track down the movie this is not the sequel to apparently Knocked Up which I’ve also not seen. See more Alex P @RT25599780 Oct 17 A proper modern classic IMO. Just so accurate and relatable. Paul Rudd eating that cupcake by the trash can as he's meant to be throwing them away lives in my mind forever. Love this film and the soundtrack is also fantastic.
