P I @RT34943271 Jun 8, 2026 Even if I think the story could had have even more inside of it, in retrospect it was told just the way they were talking about the relationships and characters between the storyline. In the end of it all, the suffering, loving and life happening we all just sort of entwine between things happening to us, without really knowing why or how our lives gets written. In delicate and skillful acting we see the big emotions and significancy of how we should be experiencing life but rarely really getting to the core of it. Glenn Close's gentle and loving way playing Joan made every minute worth of watching. It felt like all the actors were truly invested in telling this story and giving the audience a chance to take a breath from our lives that we all play for better or for worse, but in a way only we ourselves truly get to experience. I recommend this movie warmly to anyone who is looking for a movie they can sit with without a hurry to finnish it or to escape something. See more Rocky R @Jibblybitty Feb 1, 2026 While the film is enjoyable, due to decent acting from the leads and beautiful camerawork, the story feels spoon fed to the viewer. I could guess every twist before it was revealed so there are never those jaw-drop moments that you hoped for. The fact that The Favourite, won the Oscar over this, shows how clearly this film was another attempt to cash in on the feminist revival of the me too moment. The favourite did this well, shining a light of a real woman’s experiences and the complexities of the human experience - leaving the viewer space to make their own inferences about the characters and their intentions. The wife, however, felt like an unnecessary justification of a wives eternal servitude - not what I expected or hoped the takeaway would be, especially as the the basis could’ve made for a really interesting exploration into something that many real women have experienced. It was somewhat difficult for me to feel TOO bad for her character, Joan however, since the Charade was HER idea in the first place. But I guess that's what so many women do, for the men they love. A very complex storyline with great dialogue addresses complex questions at many levels with terrific performances generally but yes, Glenn Close's performance is just stunning.
