Shyamalan keeps things small and contained, building tension through awkward moments rather than big shocks. The simplicity works in its favor, even if the film often chooses safety over real risk. Its mix of light horror and uncomfortable dark humor creates some effective scenes, though the tone never fully settles. There’s a more relaxed, playful Shyamalan here, which helps the movie flow, but also makes it feel like a minor entry in his career.
