In a near-future society, The Running Man is the top-rated show on television--a deadly competition where contestants, known as Runners, must survive 30 days while being hunted by professional assassins, with every move broadcast to a bloodthirsty public and each day bringing a greater cash reward. Desperate to save his sick daughter, working-class Ben Richards (Glen Powell) is convinced by the show's charming but ruthless producer, Dan Killian (Josh Brolin), to enter the game as a last resort. But Ben's defiance, instincts, and grit turn him into an unexpected fan favorite--and a threat to the entire system. As ratings skyrocket, so does the danger, and Ben must outwit not just the Hunters, but a nation addicted to watching him fall.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Spiritedly sprinting through grim source material, Edgar Wright's The Running Man doesn't live up to the director's high bar for inventive action extravaganzas but maintains a slick stride.

Audience Says

Though a bit of the source material’s thematic heft is softened here, The Running Man still delivers a high-octane, gripping ride supercharged by Glen Powell’s irresistible charisma.

Wright juggles dystopian thrills, satire, sentiment, and slapstick, but never nails any of them. The result is a genre mashup that feels more muddled than masterful. Go to Full Review

the Running Man trips and falls trying to figure out why it exists, and how to adapt to a different social climate and still maintain scathing commentary on where we are headed. Go to Full Review

Between satire, violence, and reality TV, dystopia is no longer frightening: it just looks too much like an increasingly imminent future. [Full Review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

For all the original’s faults and cheesiness, this modern version takes itself too seriously and what we’re left with is a sometimes fun, yet ultimately uneven actioner that tries to do too much. Go to Full Review

Alyce Head Jan 19 I really enjoyed the movie . Very exciting. a lot of action. See more G reviews Jan 16 Definitely a must see Action from start to finish the remake did not disappoint.!! See more bigg nomad Jan 15 nothing original to see here See more Mack Jan 11 The lead role was miscast. Maybe it would be better cast if Glen Powell played the Josh Brolin role and Josh Brolin played the Glen Powell (as Ben Richards) role. Josh Brolin, 20 years younger, as the character he was in No Country for Old Men. Glen Powell, as the TV Producer but aged up 20 years. The movie's last 20 minutes slow and I didn't really understand the ending. If the movie was trying to make a statement, I missed it. See more Jose Jan 5 Very funny, futuristic action See more Ray Jan 3 Really enjoyed this movie. See more Read all reviews
