As always with these classic Universal monster movies, the production and sets are excellent. I felt like I was in ancient Cairo. The artwork on the hieroglyphics looked great, and the acting was well done. My issue is that this movie is kind of boring. It's more of a "man chasing a woman" movie than a horror or monster movie. I don't understand how these people don't realize there is something a little off about the mummy's appearance. He's obviously creepy looking! It's not very thrilling, barely interesting, and kind of dull. The story is something we've seen in other adaptations, like The Mummy from 1999, but that movie had so much more going on. I understand the times were different, but even considering that, this just isn't for me. Instead of relying on constant action, it builds tension through mood and mystery, which makes it far more memorable. Boris Karloff is incredible as Imhotep, delivering a haunting performance that feels both unsettling and strangely tragic. The film’s sense of ancient curse and romance gives it a unique edge compared to other monster movies of its time. Even decades later, it still holds up because of its style and tone. Overall, I’d give it a 9/10—it’s a classic that perfectly captures the magic of early horror cinema. See more Justin T @RT08580778 Dec 30, 2025 The first 30 minutes and the last 10 minutes are fairly entertaining and engaging but the rest is pretty dull with nothing happening. It looks really beautiful, I just love the look of old films that have been well looked after. It also sounds okay for an older film. Shame that there is literally no story or character progression for half of the film. It’s really not as good as you think it should be but there is certainly some entertainment here. The spear thing is horrible which I wasn’t expecting. It’s not bad or good, all things balanced it’s below average. See more Read all reviews
