Christopher M @Pookster 4d 70% is approaching crazy work territory in my opinion. This one definitely clears 74% at least. Flirting with 60s is non-sensible and disrespectful. THG got even deeper in their bag with plot complexity. It’s a fascinating chest match between two dynamics. David and Goliath. good and evil. elite versus poor. Similar to the Harry Potter finale, I have respect for a franchise that thinks so deep into a plot that they need to split into two movies. And I’m OK with a slower build if it’s interesting and leads to a greater climax. Safe to say, I am satisfied. Wait a second that sounds wrong. Anyways enjoy your watch. Now I haven’t read the books, but maybe they should have made Part 1 and 2 one large movie? This has decent set up, but no satisfying resolutions or anything that like, and it doesn’t feel like the direction is as strong or assured here. Also, some of the better characters are separated here, so it’s not quite as much fun. I do like that this installment is morally ambiguous, it’s not just black and white, and that it does really complicate things. So themes here, while perhaps not as entertainingly explored as you’d want, are still present to the central story. Overall, a decent bit unspectacular set-up for the final film, because inherently, it was kinda set up to be that. See more Kevin P Dec 7 A pretty good prologue into the finale. The direction is solid, and the acting is great as always. Jennifer Lawrence and Phillip Seymour Hoffman have a lot of time to shine. The action is sparse, but we get some cool fight scenes in District 8, that awesome montage of rebellions played to that incredible song "Hanging Tree" sung by Jennifer Lawrence. By splitting the book into 2 parts, this movie feels like buildup without payoff. It's a subversion of the "young chosen one" narrative, as this is the story of a young woman being manipulated into becoming a figurehead leading a rebellion. It's definitely more realistic, even if it takes away Katniss's agency and impact on the plot. Despite the lack of action, the propaganda angle was interesting. You feel bad for Peeta's brainwashing. Katniss's fake bad acting in the propaganda films and watching the movie make fun of its own marketing was funny. It's not great, but it still has some solid commentary and some great acting.
