What to Know

Critics Consensus

Pacing problems prevent Stowaway from fully engaging, but it's distinguished by its thoughtful, well-acted approach to a story built on an excruciating moral dilemma.

Audience Says

Although it's well-acted and beautifully filmed, this cleverly conceived sci-fi drama is undone by its predictable, drawn-out story and a frustrating ending.

The ending of Stowaway was very abrupt and did not fit with the rest of the story. It needed an extra 10-15 minutes to show what happens after that moment, and what effect it has on the crew. Instead, the credits instantly roll. Very frustrating. Go to Full Review

Despite a great cast and blissful imagery, the impact of ‘Stowaway’ is dulled by an uninspired story. Go to Full Review

Stowaway is not complex, nor is it trying to be, but if you’re looking for a quick distraction that’ll leave your palms sweaty and your heart racing, then this is well worth your time. Go to Full Review

Marco L @decatur555 5d Stowaway is built around a strong, immediately engaging premise: a confined space mission, a limited crew, and an impossible moral dilemma. The film wisely avoids spectacle and focuses instead on ethical questions and psychological tension. While this restrained approach is refreshing, it also becomes its main limitation. The pacing is often too slow, and moments that should tighten the tension never fully do. Performances are solid and help sustain the claustrophobic atmosphere, but the emotional impact remains muted. The central dilemma is compelling in theory, yet its execution feels somewhat forced and less human than intended. By the end, the film feels thoughtful and well-crafted, but emotionally distant. Interesting and respectable, but not as powerful as its concept suggests. See more Stephanie W @Westbound Jan 19 Who doesn't love a space movie and one with such acclaimed actors, but then there's this movie. You get engaged with the likeable crew and serious captain and think there's momentum, however slow it is, then there's a plot twist by there being a stowaway and yes there is a dynamic to the story of what would you be willing to do or ask someone to do if there were only so many viable solutions to a fatal situation. However, this movie leaves us with more questions than answers. You never get to know WHY is the stowaway there to begin with? And his cheerful disposition has you questioning the entire time did he plan this? A waste of an hour and 47 mins. Go watch Passengers or The Martian again at least there's an actual framework to those movies. Heck you want to go back farther go watch Armageddon. See more Steven G. @DongLord69 Nov 25 Awesome premise. Some great cinematography. But ultimately a total let down. Not only was the ending absolutely horrendous, it had absolutely nothing to do with the actual plot, leaving the entire movie rendered useless. It could have been heavily edited and contained a more conclusive ending. We literally spend like 90 minutes watching one story, and then 5 minutes of a completely irrelevant ending that never revisits the previous 90 minutes. It’s incredibly frustrating. And no sequel. What a waste of a high budget space film. See more Mike C @magic26601 Nov 8 Good movie up until the ending. A few unanswered questions. See more Adam W Nov 3 Great story and fantastic acting. Would have loved more time to build some depth a purpose for each character making all of the ending decisions more meaningful but at the end the overall movie was an entertaining and heartfelt watch. See more Ignat B Oct 28 The premise is good, but my God is it frustrating to watch for more than one reason... It's a good background movie, but don't plan a movie night with popcorn around it See more Read all reviews
