Not only is the violence and gore more implied than shown, you always seem to know when it is coming and are rather prepared for it. There is little of that what-is-going-to-happen-next-I-can't-look feeling.

Stephen Kings It, tries hard to honor the book. It’s got a good cast including John Ritter and Harry Anderson. For the time it was made. It’s not a bad adaptation, later films much better though.
