(jkjk) Jokes aside it wasn't bad, and was an interesting concept but felt underdeveloped and rushed. Could've been a cool limited series if the characters back stories were more developed and the science was a bit more fleshed out, and paced out. It already had the production quality of an TV show. The government and military reaction didn't feel believable, kind of had a removed, non-mencacing obstacle, like in old Twilight Zone episodes and 50s Sci-fi. Yeah, they can show up with the military and interrogate them, but why didn't they put the billionaire in custody in the first place? Why was it taking so long to get other scientists there? See more Captain C @RT29629362 Sep 6, 2026 I think this movie was trying to be too cerebral without having anything profound to say. It was kind of like Contact but without ANY human element. Imagine you had an idea for a neat alien concept - but then forgot that you need to tell a story and just stretched your idea into ‘how would they figure out what this neat alien thing is?’ And wrote a script that is pretty much that - and only that. Felt like this could have been an interesting episode of X files. Or a vignette on some anthology - so like, 30 minutes max. I wonder if people pitch an idea and then expect a $100M budget and are given $1500 instead and told to make the best of it. That’s this movie. I watched it because I like Josh H and Dennis Q. But even they couldn’t make this interesting. Best part? David Thewlis - great misanthropic, British genius. Put this performance in a Bond movie or something and it’s brilliant. Terrible sci fi writers will often use a voiceover / narration explaining everything for exposition. (at the beginning) This genius takes it one step further by also adding a voiceover AT THE END TO EXPLAIN EVERYTHING. Because no, we didn't get the premise so simple a toddler could understand, please just lay the whole plot of the movie out for us with a narration at the end. Thanks so much. Please, Jonathon Sobel or any other director who reads this...if you don't like sci-fi, or are not or never were a fan of sci-fi. DO NOT MAKE SCI FI!!!! If you've never read a full sci-fi novel just for fun, DO NOT MAKE SCI FI!! Or if you you ever find yourself saying 'hmm sci fi sounds fun, I could use my hollywood clout to try it out" .... See more Ashlynn H @RT73457234 Sep 5, 2026 It’s like watching the corniest young adult fanfic on the screen. I have no clue how anyone liked this, it’s cliche after cliche after cliche. And the characters have no depth, just cut and paste like an AI amalgamation of the most stereotypical sci fi alien movie ever. Of course they all solve each problem that comes up on the first try - how to speak to aliens, how to read the aliens response, etc etc etc. and their old childhood memories give them the magic solution that leaves them rushing out of a room while the other characters yell "where are you going" after you as you visualize and solve the mystery! Complete with a military ambush to try and stop the science nerds from talking to the aliens! See more Read all reviews
