Chris S @Janomi 1d Sicario is exceptional, and Taylor Sheridan’s screenplay is a major reason why. He writes modern westerns better than almost anyone, and this may be his strongest work. The border becomes a lawless frontier, the agents and cartels become rival forces fighting over territory, and the story keeps asking what justice means when every side has already been corrupted. Denis Villeneuve builds dread from the opening scene and rarely lets up. Every convoy, border crossing, tunnel, hallway, and quiet conversation feels dangerous because the world is morally unstable and physically threatening. Benicio del Toro is incredible as Alejandro, quiet, controlled, mysterious, and terrifying. Emily Blunt gives the movie its moral center as Kate, pulling us into a world where the rules no longer make sense. Roger Deakins’ images and Jóhann Jóhannsson’s pulsing score make the film feel like a descent into hell. Sicario is masterfully crafted, brutal, and unforgettable. The action scenes have you on the seat of your pants. The storyline is very easy to follow and the character development very well done. I've now seen the movie a few times and still struggle to understand why the role of "Kate" was added. I understand someone had to insist on adding a girl boss (which she is not) and the acting is so cringey at times that it ruins the scenes. In a real world scenario, we would hope this person would never be added to teams, unless deemed as a suicide mission. The movie continues its gritty format throughout, just try to get past the rightgeous role of "Kate" and sitback and enjoy the ride.
