Whether it’s the story, the characters, the action, the grand sweeping nature of the film, or just the excitement and fun that comes with this story, it is satisfying in pretty much any way I look at it, along with being as essential as any other classic.

I like long movies, but this was one of the few where I felt exhausted throughout. However, the direction and acting are so compelling that you cannot help but to feel inspired by its efforts.

This along with The Godfather 1 and 2 are among the best films I've ever seen. This was near the end of the age of the Samurai. Battle hardened men defended a small village against bandits. Masters of the sword and other weapons. The fights are legendary. This isn't over the top wire work like you'd see in Kill Bill. There are small scenes that truly stand out. This film inspired The Magnificent Seven and Star Wars. This film is about honor and duty. In an earlier time the Samurai might have ignored the villagers but they've fallen on hard times. The men know the future is for the people they protect.
