Adapted from Craig Silvey's best-selling novel, Runt is a heartfelt and hilarious contemporary Australian family feature film set in the country town of Upson Downs. It tells the story of ten-year-old Annie Shearer and her best friend, an adopted stray dog called Runt, as they attempt to win the Agility Course Championship at the Krumpets Dog Show in London in order to save their family's farm from drought and misery.

Despite being steeped in familiar elements, this is a very charming, heartwarming film. Throughout the runtime I could feel my mouth forming a big silly grin.

Runt is a gorgeous tale about overcoming obstacles and being true to who you are. Kind lies, gentle affirmations, and deserved come-uppance for the bad guys will make any audience declare “Thank ewe,” to John Sheedy and his wondrous world.

I thoroughly enjoyed the story of Runt, a stray dog that became a hero during hard times for a family and community suffering because of drought and the greed of a landowner. The humor and tenderhearted emotions kept you engaged throughout with subtle life lessons.

Quintessentially Aussie, heartfelt and fun! Loved the retro aesthetics with an '80s & '90s feel, beautiful old cars, lots of loveable muts and a great message. (the dog survives)

This one didn’t really land for me. The premise had potential, but the execution felt uneven—like it wasn’t sure if it wanted to lean into gritty drama or something more stylized. Some moments were solid, but overall it dragged and didn’t leave much of an impact. A couple of performances stood out, but the story just didn’t hold enough weight to keep me invested.
