Wayne K @RT88290232 Jul 4 A not entirely necessary but still very enjoyable follow up to the excellent Hope & Glory, continuing the story of Bill Rohan as he graduates from Child Having A Great Time In The War to Young Adult Having A Terrible Time In The Army. What made the first film work was its perspective, the wide-eyed and optimistic look at a tragic event when viewed through a child’s eyes. Here its more about friendship, camaraderie and finding your place in the world. Bill’s family is mostly an afterthought until later on, but the script and characters are so engaging that you really appreciate how different this film is. It may not have the same emotional resonance, but it’s a roller coast of emotion nonetheless. Its got some nice characters but its just not the kind of film that stays in my mind for long. An ok film but not much more, I wouldn't expressly recommend it as such, no.
