Andie (Molly Ringwald) is an outcast at her Chicago high school, hanging out either with her older boss (Annie Potts), who owns the record store where she works, or her quirky classmate Duckie (Jon Cryer), who has a crush on her. When one of the rich and popular kids at school, Blane (Andrew McCarthy), asks Andie out, it seems too good to be true. As Andie starts falling for Blane, she begins to realize that dating someone from a different social sphere is not easy.

The film looks like nothing so much as a very shrewd compendium of what the market requires. Pretty In Pink is a teenage version of those wrong side of the tracks romances of some 30 years ago, impeccably dressed in mid-eighties clobber.

I don't get the Molly Ringwald hype. All of her characters seem the same to me and I don't think I would get along very well with any of them. She's angsty, whiney and self-centered. I liked seeing members of the Brat Pack on the screen and a young James Spader was entertaining. I lean Team Blane more than Team Duckie, but I think both are too good for Andie. Best Character: Blane Best Quote: "This is an incredibly romantic moment, and you're ruining it for me!" - Duckie Best Scene: Dancing in the shop.

The love triangle film that St. Elmo's Fire should've been. Ringwald and McCarthy are good together while Cryer is a bit much but the quality of supporting cast (Potts and Stanton) help make up the difference.
