Su mito, su violencia y su reinado en el hampa marplatense, pedía a gritos un relato sucio, tensionado y meticuloso. Sin embargo, la adaptación dirigida por Lucía Puenzo prefiere refugiarse en las pretensiones estéticas del "cine de autor" antes que construir un thriller policial verosímil y atrapante. Pepita la pistolera es el claro ejemplo de una historia que le habría quedado infinitamente mejor el formato de miniserie. Dos horas de metraje no alcanzaron para darle dimensión al hampa ni peso emocional a sus víctimas, resultando en una colección de casualidades convenientes y paisajes costeros que no logran tapar un guion haciendo agua.
