This is not really a romance, an ethics lesson, nor is it even about consent, forgiveness, or redemption. The story is asking us to honestly think about something troubling: “what would I [eventually] do in absolute isolation?” Jim is shown going through every other idea before considering to violate someone else’s life out of loneliness (and the fact that action was so unsettling is actually the movie not lying to us about the discomfort we feel when circumstances eclipse our morals). This is shown by Aurora feeling truly violated upon learning Jim woke her up, but then during the climax Aurora recognizes that forgiveness/tolerance is not actually a choice for her in this scenario but the less bad outcome — especially if the only other alternative is that he dies, leaving her exactly where Jim was 2 years earlier — forever alone, or worse, she commits the same unforgivable violation Jim does to a third passenger See more Classy gentlemans B @RT10005137 Jul 10 I loved this movie wish they made a second one I’ve watched it many times now See more Jason R @J-Rush1411 Jun 25 Honestly a good film to watch once, A passenger is woken from a pod earlier than he should have, he debates waking someone else so he isn't alone See more Todd S @ToddSt Jun 23 Spoiler alert. I liked the basic premise of desperation> moral failure> bonding and deception> forgiveness > choosing your future. I believe, while the initial moral failure might be seen by some as unforgivable, the actions following including remorse, heroic mutual life saving and finally a hypersleep redo offer, were believable and reasonable. As an old guy who's seen a little bit , I would suggest that earnest regret for mistakes, attempts to make up for them and forgiveness are essential for healthy , real, longterm relationships.
